February 3 - Tuesday

There were 119 at coffee this morning. A few of our residents ar eoff on a cruise this week.  
   
Ramona Armstrong filled in for Marty as the Sunshine Lady. Marty is one of those on the cruise. Jeff Warrington spoke to us this morning about items such as exiting the hall in case of a fire, Recent computer problems and new Orange Acres Merchandise..
   
Jeff also told us about the increased number of handicapped parking spots during special events. You may have noticed this key pad outside the front door. He informed us that in the near future we will be able to use the hall after hours with the use of this key pad by entering the proper code.
   
Our normal bike ride to the Sarasota Square Mall was postponed from yesterday to today because of the weather. Although being cool today, these five made the trip. They are Phil Albarano, Becky Ciraulo, Tom Studer, Gene Mathes and Jim Lessard.  

February 5 - Thursday

There were 116 at the February pot luck tonight.
 
Hostess Mary Lou Lira welcomed those attending the meal. Gene Mathes led them in prayer.
   
After the meal we were entertained by The Knappers.  

February 10 - Tuesday

There were 121 at the coffee hour this morning.  
   
Lois Sensenbrenner introduced New home owner Ginny Newton. Jean Delaney and Lorraine Labonte were selling tickets to the February 21 Snowball Dance.
   
Charlie Parkes was helping Grace Sherry sell tickets to the ladies luncheon.  

February 12 - Thursday

Today was the day all of the flea market items were collected from the storage areas in the community. Many men were there to help transport it. Others worked inside the clubhouse sorting and arranging the many items.

February 14 - Saturday

Six Orange Acres residents, Ed & Pat Faust, Dick & Peggy Killinger and Doreen & John Gibbons took part in affirming their wedding vows at Siesta Key today. It took place at the beach. There were 402 couples present. The ceremony was followed by champagne and cake and a beautiful Siesta sunset.
 
We had a great flea market today. Great crowd and lots of good sales.
 
 

 

Here is the commercial that was filmed on the Kathleen D sailing ship January 28. Marge Phelan, Joyce & Larry Mansfield and Gene Mathes were present for the filming. This is the resultant video being shown on WUSF TV.

February 17 - Tuesday

There were 128 at the coffee hour this morning. The reported flea market income amounted to over $3900. Thanks went out to all who did such a great job.

February 20 - Friday

There were 23 of us from Orange Acres that went to St. Petersburg by bus with Ship & Shore today. We left from the clubhouse at 9:30 am and returned about 4 pm.
   
We cruised on the beautiful authentic paddlewheel excursion boat the Starlite Princess for a three hour luncheon, entertainment & sightseeing cruise. We were entertained with a delightful show with Charlie Ho and a dancer friend who took us to the islands through the traditional songs and dances of Polynesia and Tahiti with a side of humor.
   
Gene Mathes was, of course, enchanted by the beautiful dancing. A narration of the area around St. Petersburg Bay was given by the captain as we cruised.

February 21 - Saturday

Three good friends Joan, Lucille and Larraine enjoying the Snowball Dance at the clubhouse tonight. Larry Williams did a great job as usual.
   
There is always the time for the Electric Slide. The dance planners are shown here drawing for the door prizes.

February 23 - Monday

There were 19 at the beach party today at Siesta beach. Those that got there early sat in the sun to get warm. At noon the grills were ready for the hot dogs and hamburgers.
   
A good layout of food was enjoyed by everyone. Also lots of good fellowship.
   
Gene Mathes led the group in a sing-a-long after the lunch.

February 24 - Tuesday

There were 125 at coffee this morning. The donuts were free, compliments of Harold Ryman and Lee Turner. Harold and Lee arranged for the Shriners to present their program this morning.
 
Harold, left, introduced Dale Labelle who presented a slide show on the Shriners Hospitals for Children The slide show, put together and shown by Oscar Clotier, showed us all the great services they provide for children under the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate at no charge.
   
Jeff Warrington presented Ramona Armstrong with a $500 check for a home referral. And of course the pink flamingo had to upset the program with her ideas on the "Birds of a Feather" program.
   
Jeff showed us the many improvements made to the computer facilities in the front of the room. Many prizes were given in a drawing by Jeff. The final winner, Gil Forrler,  got to cut the ribbon opening the revised computer station.

February 25 - Wednesday

The Orange Acres ladies went to Sunnyside Village for the Ladies Luncheon today.
   
These were residents of Sunnyside Village that performed for us, they were really funny.
