November 4 - Saturday

About ten Orange Acres residents attended the outdoor barbecue and jamboree at the Christian Retreat this evening. The great country/gospel music continued until 9 pm.

November 6 - Monday

There were three residents that took the bike ride to the mall today. They were Tom Studer, Ralph Bush and Jim Lessard. They were met by four others in the new food court. From left are Gene Mathes, Joan Kapp, Mary & Jim Lessard, Ralph & Nancy Bush and Tom Studer.

November 7 - Tuesday

There were 93 in attendance at the first coffee of the new season.
 

Past President, Gene Mathes opened the meeting and passed the gavel to the new President, Pat Myers. Gene was given a Certificate of Appreciation for his dedicated service during the last four years as President and Vice-president. He also received a gift certificate to his favorite Mexican restaurant, El Adobe.

Our new President, Pat Myers assumed control of the meeting. She introduced the new officers and board members and followed the meeting with her first board meeting of the year.
 


November 11 - Saturday - Veteran's Day

Here is Charlie Parkes Organizing the parade.
 
The parade began at the clubhouse and proceeded to the gazebo for the service.
 
There were at least a dozen golf carts in the parade plus bicycles and pedestrians.

The golf carts had this area of their own.
 
Jim Jaeger opened the service with a prayer.
 
Charlie Parkes made the introductions. Mel Kautzer was the parade marshal.
 
Air Force gunner Dick Skinner told about his capture by the Germans during world war II.
 
Anne Hubert gave a nice reading.
 
Ken Russell tolled the bell for each Orange Acres veteran that had died since we started having Veteran's Day services.
 
Michael Meracola of the Northport HS band played taps. The Northport HS band played some appropriate selections.

We had a great crowd for the lunch at the clubhouse.
 

Patti Highland entertained following the meal. To end the day many took a dip in the pool.

November 12 - Sunday

There were 50 at the vesper service tonight at the clubhouse.
 

The speaker tonight was our own Rev. Joe Stump. As usual he did a great job.

After the service many stayed for cake and coffee that was left over from the Veteran's Day meal yesterday.
 


November 14 - Tuesday

There were 89 at the coffee hour this morning.
 

The 50-50 raffle started this morning with Dick Vierus calling the numbers.
 
Jeff Warrington stopped by to talk to everyone about security in the park and the clubhouse.
 
Dick Vierus opened the business meeting with prayer. Treasurer Joan Kapp presented the financial information for the previous year along with the proposed budget. The budget was approved without question.

November 17 - Friday

There were about twenty Orange Acres residents that attended the Super Seniors program at Faith Baptist church this morning. Five of them were drawn for the door prizes. They were, from left, Kay Gyenes, Jim Lessard, Maxine Mock, Dick Vierus and Audrey Young.

November 18 - Saturday

There were 22 at the 50's Dance tonight. Everyone enjoyed the music and the contests. Everyone came away a winner. The Deejay was Gene Mathes. He kept the music going from 7 pm till 9:30 pm.

November 19 - Sunday

There were about 34 attended the Activities Planning Session held in the clubhouse this afternoon.

President Pat Myers provided cookies for all those attending and got the coming season organized to everyone's satisfaction.


November 21 - Tuesday

There were 92 at coffee this morning.

 

 

 

Many residents showed up for the flu shots this morning. The nurses did a great job. Here Sara Detweiler bravely receives her shot.

November 23 - Thursday

There were about 66 at the Thanksgiving dinner at the clubhouse this afternoon. As usual the food was terrific. Thanks to Jean Delaney, Annlee Welker and their great crew for a wonderful job.

November 25 - Saturday

Tony & Irene Zarrillo celebrated their 60th anniversary tonight at the clubhouse with about 120 of their friends. The also renewed their marriage vows.

 

The entertainment for the evening included this musical trio consisting of Tony Zarrillo, Gene Mathes and Dick Vierus.

November 28 - Tuesday

Today's Coffee Hour picture was taken by Ward Young.

 

 

 

Mary Ryman Introduced Barbara Handler this morning.

 

 

 

Mary also introduced Marti Gauthier.

 

 

 

Moe Warrington and Gene Mathes left today for El Salvador to work with "Living Water El Salvador". More pictures to come. Here is a neat picture of Cuba while we flew over it.

November 29 - Wednesday

This is seen many times on the roads in El Salvador. This is Moe and Gene eating supper with the men on the drill team. The El Salvador food is quite different from what we are used to.

November 30 - Thursday

This is the well provided with the money donated by the Orange Acres Community. This is the plaque at this pump. The translation is: "Living Water International and the community of Orange Acres donate this well in the name of Jesus"
