Shown here are Orange Acres residents, from left,  Bob Eastman, Marj Dunn, Pat & Tom Myers and Audrey & Ward Young.

Gene Mathes is shown here with his friends Candi at left and Joann in the center. Local entertainer Kenny Evans provided some great songs.

The fireworks display was one of the most fantastic in the area. Here is an actual shot of the fireworks.

July 3 - Monday

Dear friends,
Thank you for the inquiries regarding the  severe  flooding in New York state. We are fine but surrounded by disasters nearby. Our village center (Greene) was flooded and the villages near us are all flooded . At Binghamton one hospital and a nursing home are evacuated. Over on the Pennsylvania border where Esther Thoma comes from, my family has five homes badly damaged including my brothers. We cannot get there to see it by road.

July 11 - Tuesday

Well, I did it again. I forgot to take pictures at the pancake breakfast. It was really good though. We had 33 present. I had my mind on other things. At 8:30 this morning I met 7 other guys and took a bike ride from Publix to the end of the new bike trail. It was a 26 mile round trip. We ate lunch together in Venice before starting back. It was a great time.

We are trying something new in the library. We would like those borrowing items from the library to use the sign-out sheet located there. We have had some problems and would like each person to borrow no more than three items at a time and limit the time out to three weeks. If you have any problems with this please talk to Gene Mathes.

July 13 - Thursday

Here is a picture just to show how the ponds are nearly back to the normal level because of our frequent rains lately.

July 18 - Tuesday

There were 27 at coffee this morning.

July 22 - Saturday

Pam & Gene Rickels sends this picture from Ohio stating: "RAIN, RAIN, RAIN.  EVEN THE TRUMPET VINES ARE CRYING!"

July 25 - Tuesday

There were 37 at coffee this morning.

Chuck and Doris Abrams, 54 Jeffrey drive, were at coffee for the last time. They are packing to go back north after being here since August of 1966 coming from Montgomery Alabama. They assured us that they will be back for visits because they have many friends in this area. We will all miss them very much.

July 31 - Monday

There were 19 people at the pool party tonight. It is a good time just to play in the pool like a bunch of kids.

Tony Zarrillo was showing off his new bathing suit.

We had our supper in the clubhouse which was air conditioned.  Oretty smart on a day like today. Gene Mathes led a sing-a-long and provided some renditions of his own.
