January 2 - Monday

There were four fine gentlemen rode their bicycles to the Sarasota Square Mall on this very beautiful day. They were, left to right, Tom Studer, Jim Lessard, Gene Mathes and Ralph Bush. They are shown here enjoying a wonderful lunch together. Ralph's wife Nancy met them for lunch and she is taking the picture.
 


January 3 - Tuesday

There were 123 residents at the coffee-hour this morning. Most people had returned from the holidays and in spite of the increase over last week there was only one donut left!! Good planning by the crew. Us Ohioans enjoyed the Buckeye music which Anlee Welker played on the way to the podium. What a great football game. GO BUCKS!
 


January 5 - Thursday

There were about 131 attending the Men's Pot Luck tonight at 6 pm. The food was great and the fellowship was wonderful.
 

Tom Myers did a fantastic job as the pot luck chairman.

Nancy Seibert did a great job of entertaining the crowd. She had good music and great jokes to keep us laughing.

January 10 - Tuesday

There were 129 at coffee this morning. It is nice to see the crowd growing again.
 

Mary Ryman introduced Linda and Richard (not Dick) Chestnut who live at 201 Jason Dr.  Here are Joan Kapp and Mary Lessard selling tickets for the Midday Madness coming up on January 23.

The speaker this morning was Mervin Kennell from "Suncoast Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics" to inform us of the need for more fire Stations in this area.
 


There were 28 neighbors and friends of Alice Vierus and Joan Kapp that helped them celebrate their birthdays together at Turtles restaurant today.
 

Here are the Birthday ladies outside the restaurant.

 

The party was continues at the clubhouse with cake and ice cream and reading their birthday cards.
 

January 12 - Thursday

At the Fun Whist Party tonight, hosted by Hugh Spinney & Ralph Bush there were 68 players.  Coffee by Jim Lessard and cookies from the OA Cookie Fairies. We gave out $68 in prizes including a $5 door prize won by Phyllis Haas.

 

 

The prizes for playing whist were as follows:  Left to right,  Faye Spinney, Phil  Moffitt $9 with scores of 110; Pauline Yoder $4 with a score of 107; Ray Bergeron, Phyllis Haas $2 with scores of 106; Charlie Parks $9 with a scores of 110; Jean Delaney $2 with a score of 106; Mary Ryman (not shown) $7 with a score of 109. The grand winner was Lorraine Labonte $13 with a score of 112.

 


January 16 - Monday

Five brave souls took the bike ride from Orange Acres to Bayfront Park today. They were Tom Studer, Ralph Bush, Ken Russell, Jim Lessard and Gene Mathes. It was a perfect day for the twenty mile round trip. They had a great lunch at O'Reilly's Restaurant before returning.

 

They enjoyed the entertainment at the outdoor tables while eating. Before starting back they got a good look at the beautiful and quite large sculpture entitled "Unconditional Surrender".

January 17 - Tuesday

There were 124 at coffee this morning.
 


January 21 - Saturday

Larry Williams provided the music for the Cedar Cove dance held at the Orange Acres Clubhouse. Larry played the music we all liked.
 
The dance floor was filled most of the time with dancers from Orange Acres, Cedar Cove and Windward Isle.
 
Many people participated in the line dancing too.
 
Charlie Johnson from Cedar Cove also did some great songs on his instrument.
 
Liz Bond from Orange Acres won the grand prize of brand new Stetson cowboy hat. The Orange Acres crowd.

January 23 - Monday

Today was the first Mid-Day Madness at Orange Acres. It was a great success with 150 attending. A catered meal followed the entertainment.
 

Dick Vierus did a great job as the master of ceremonies. Everyone enjoyed Steve Jeffris with his great music and comedy.

 

Hugh Spinney did a fantastic job of helping Steve with his sound effects.  

January 24 - Tuesday

There were 128 attended the pancake breakfast this morning.
 
 
This is the great pancakes and sausage.
 
Here is the fantastic kitchen crew that made it all possible. Ila Meehan, Ed Schattschneider, Tony Zarrillo, Bob Whiskeman Grace Sherry and Joan Kapp.
 
And the coffee crew of Jerry Meehan and Roger Prunier.
 
 

January 27 - Friday

There were 13 Orange Acres residents took the bus trip to St. Petersburg to have lunch on the Starlite Princess. Here are some of the Orange Acres people enjoying lunch.

 

They were entertained by "The Roaring Twentys", a husband and wife team singing songs from the 20,s and 30's.  

January 30 - Monday

There were 19 at the Beach Party today. The day started out cool with rain but the sun came out by lunchtime. There were enough leftover hotdogs for everyone. Don't they look good?

January 31 - Tuesday

149 residents enjoyed coffee, donuts and a very informational meeting this morning.
 

The Homeowners annual meeting was held this morning. Shown here are members of the Board, with the president, Wayne Steinbaugh. Caroline Turner introduced new residents Cindy and Bob Springer to the park.

 

Carol White was selling tickets for the Icecream Social on February 14 at 6:30.  The cost is $2.50. Ladies Luncheon tickets were being sold by Lorraine Labonte and Joan Russell.  The price of the ticket - $18 - will cover a nice buffet and a fashion show.  February 8 is the date.
