March 1 - Tuesday

There were 158 at coffee this morning. It was State T-Shirt Day and everyone stood to show off their shirts. We took a count by home state or country with the following results: Ohio - 23, Massachusetts - 19, Michigan - 19, New York - 17, Maine - 13, Canada - 10, Pennsylvania - 9, Indiana - 8, and New Hampshire - 6.

This chorus entertained the crowd with a song entitled "The Orange Acres Song" to the tune of "Yellow Rose Of Texas". This was found in our archives from long ago. They did a great job. At the end of the meeting Gene Mathes showed the pictures taken of the 50th anniversary party on the big screen.

March 3 - Thursday

There were about 120 at the pot luck tonight. As usual the food was great and so was the company.

The entertainment for the evening was "The sound of the Andrew Sisters". It was a great program and everyone loved it.

The girls got Charlie Parkes and Pat Reily to get up front and compete in a hula contest. They both did a great job and it was declared a tie.

March 7 - Monday

About 20 Orange Acres residents took a bus to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City today.

Everyone enjoyed the festival and got to see the main show featuring country singer, Vince Gill.

March 8 - Tuesday

There were 121 at coffee this morning.

March 9 - Wednesday

There were about 77 showed up for the Ladies Tea today at the clubhouse. The rain probably kept some from coming.

March 13 - Sunday

There were 60 at vespers tonight. Bill Corristan from St. Johns United Methodist Church brought the message. Bill is shown here with two of his Orange Acres parishioners Edie Hohler and Liz bond.

March 15 - Tuesday

There were 126 at the coffee hour this morning.

Mary Ryman filled in for Liz Bond as the Sunshine Lady this morning. Liz will be gone for three weeks. Thank you Mary.

Mary introduced Leo Sharpe this morning as a new resident.

Joan Russell was recognized this morning for her outstanding accomplishment of making a Hole-In-One golfing.

The general meeting was held after the coffee hour and Ila Meehan was re-elected as secretary and Joan Kapp re-elected as treasurer.

March 17 - Thursday

There were 52 players at the Wist Party tonight. It was a great mixer and everyone had a great time with lots of coffee and cookies at the end.

The winners were, from left to right, Bud Loomis & Harold Ryman in 5th place, Nancy Bush & Thelma Bloesing in 4th place, Ralph Haas in 3rd place, Florence Cote in 2nd place and Lee Turner & Bob Hanes in first place.

 


March 19 - Saturday

A fine memorial was held at St. Johns United Methodist Church by pastor Bill Corristan. She was chairman/co‑founder of Scarlet Macaws Red Hat Society. The sea of red hats show their respect for Fran Walton.

March 22 - Tuesday

There were 162 at coffee this morning.

March 25 - Friday

A great dance was held at the clubhouse tonight. Everyone loved "Silver Sounds".

March 26 - Saturday

Lots of people turned out for the sports day today. The weather was perfect and the games were fun.

March 29 - Tuesday

There were 134 at coffee this morning. A lot of them will be heading up north this week.

March 30 - Wednesday

We had a great 'Snowbird Picnic' at Twin Lakes Park today. There were about 53 present. The 4 pictures below show the great eating time we had at noon. What a great place to have a picnic.

Liz Bond produced 'The Gong Show which was a great hit. Some actually got 'Gonged'.
