November 2 - Sunday

There were 68 present at the Jamboree in the Park. Those performing were Gene Mathes on guitar and mandolin, Dick Vierus on guitar, Alice Vierus singing with Dick, Tony Zarrillo rattling the bones and Lew Gorzycki on base and banjo.

Our president, Gladys Bowman, announced the new name of the park as "Golden Pond."

November 3 - Monday

Repair work is underway in the park. All of the bad and settled spots in the blacktop are being replaced. Larry Stine is shown here at the southwest corner of Loren Way and Loren Drive removing the old asphalt.

November 4 - Tuesday

We had 101 at coffee this morning.

Jim Jeager closed the meeting with prayer for our sick, the veterans, the soldiers and those suffering fire loss out west.

November 7 - Friday

The gazebo has been decorated and is ready for the Veteran's Day festivities on Saturday. The parade will get under way at 11 am followed by a service in the gazebo. Everyone is invited.

November 8 - Saturday

The Veteran's Day parade formed at the clubhouse and started at 11 am. There were 15 golf carts plus bikes and marchers.

The grand marshal this year was Galen Leavitt. Galen was a Photographer Specialist in Korea and was assigned to photograph the wounded Veterans.

Phyllis Johnson was the soloist. She sang the Star Spangled Banner accompanied by Nancy Burke on the keyboard.

The North Port band marched in the parade and shared their music talents. Half the band is shown here performing during the program.

Greg Ferritto, Former Member of U.S. Navy, Served on the U.S.S. Destroyer Foote and shared information about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Lt. Col. Bob Stamper, U.S. Army Artillery, retired officer who served with the 1st Calvary and 45th Infantry   Divisions in Korea gave the address.

A good crowd was on hand to enjoy the festivities. It is estimated that about 100 people were on hand for the program and lunch.

Food and fellowship time followed at the Rec. Hall. People enjoyed sandwiches and deserts. Thanks to Ward Young for taking the pictures of the days festivities.

Deputy Neil Sculley, from the Sarasota county sheriff's office, was with us along with his boss lieutenant Dave Hart. Neil talked to the group about park and personal security . Many residents met with them after the meeting with questions and concerns.
